We Are Different
With a name like the Gathering you have to be different!
1. We are a church turned inside-out. We intentionally pay more attention to new people. It is not about us; it is always about others.
2. It is about the inside, not the outside. It doesn’t matter what you wear or how “churchy” you look.
3. We have a passion for people who want to start over. There are no “Super-Christians” at the Gathering.
4. Women pray and teach, and yet we believe in God’s Word. A close reading of the Bible reveals that women were teachers and leaders in the early church. God does not have rankings based on gender.
5. We are a part of a denomination, but we aren’t about that. All denominations were formed as movements, not as institutions. We are here to help form fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ, not to build the denomination.
6. We don’t have a building. We are on a journey. We have not arrived. Things change often at the Gathering.
7. We have some old and some new. We use video and contemporary music, but we also treasure the mystery of communion and baptism.
8. There aren’t a lot of rules. We are not going to try to tell you how to vote, how to dress, or how to live. The moment a church makes laws, we seem to find the loopholes. We believe that if you study God’s Word and seek to walk with Christ by living in the Spirit, God will take care of those things.
